A dental radiograph, or x-ray, is part of a regular dental exam. Dentistal professionals use x-rays to examine teeth, bite, and the jaw. X-rays are an essential component to preventing and diagnosing dental abnormalities.
Dental x-rays bring attention to potential dental problems that might otherwise be left unnoticed, but nonetheless could still create unnecessary pain and problems. Finding and treating dental complications at an early stage saves time, money, and especially your teeth! Have you had a dental x-ray lately? Stop by Platinum Dental Care Logan located near The Riter Mansion and save your teeth today!
What types of dental x-rays are there?
There are two types of dental x-rays. Panoramic x-rays are unique because they wrap around the entire face and teeth. They produce a photograph that shows hidden structures that are otherwise usually unnoticeable to the naked eye. Panoramic x-rays don’t give a detailed view of teeth, but instead showcase the sinus, nasal, and mandibular areas. They are conducted on an as-needed basis.
Digital x-rays are the most recently developed technology for radiographs. Dentists use an electronic sensor to capture and save the x-ray like pictures. Much like a photo taken on your phone, it is instantly available for viewing and examining.
What things do x-rays
Reveal?
- Cysts and abscesses
- Decay between the teeth
- Tumors
- Bone loss
- Problems within teeth or gum line
